On March 21, Inner City Press was blocked from staking out a UN Security Council meeting on Western Sahara. Inner City Press arrived before the 8:30 am meeting in the Security Council, Periscope video here https://youtu.be/xeaynbeiVlU, but because its new / reduced “non-resident correspondent” pass does not open the turnstile to the Council, and the glass doors without a turnstile remained locked, was unable to ask Ambassadors questions on their way in. Meanwhile the UN claims its accreditation cut doesn't hinder reporting.
At the March 21 noon briefing, Inner City Press asked why it has been Banned from the stakeout during the Western Sahara meeting. Ban Ki-moon's deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq said that there had been no UN Secretariat participation in the meeting. Vine here: https://vine.co/v/id30qvHeiuW
But later on March 21, Inner City Press took the change to asked Ban Ki-moon about Western Sahara, and to tell him again about its ouster from its office by his Cristina Gallach. Ban said, “We had a good meeting in the Security Council today.” Audio here: https://soundcloud.com/innercitypress/on-w-sahara-ban-tells-icp-good-meeting-in-unsc-but-icp-was-banned-haq-says-sect-not-involved
So who is Ban Ki-moon's “we”?
Later on March 21 as Inner City Press was working trying to write up the questions and answers of the day, it was having to worry about being thrown out of the UN as happened on March 10 at 8 pm. Inner City Press needs back not only its resident correspondent pass, which opens the turnstile to the Security Council, but also its shared office, where it can download UN video of briefings, edit and re-upload them without looking over its shoulder, will it be thrown out by UN Security again.
Also on March 21 at the noon briefing Inner City Press asked about another “private” use today of the UN Press Briefing Room, presence in which on Jan 29 led to all this. UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq not only refused to answer - he walked off the podium as Inner City Press was still asking the question. Vine here: https://vine.co/v/idLvO15T1FQ
This takes place after another indictment in the UN corruption case, of South South News' Vivian Wang - Inner City Press is looking into her links with current President of the General Assembly Mogen Lykketoft, whose office Inner City Press could before Feb 19 stakeout and now can't. Inner City Press' anti-corruption reporting is being hindered: intentionally. Ban's USG Gallach's February 19 no due process letter must be reversed - hence this petition, still needed. Thanks.
