In light of the recent assaults near our campus, UWM students started discussing resolutions to these assaults that happen not only at night, but in broad day light. These random daylight assaults are starting to happen more frequently and in sporadic locations right by UWM’s campus. All UWM students have accessibility to use BOSS (Be On the Safe Side) which offers free rides to UWM students within a 6 mile radius of campus. Although this is a great resource, BOSS only operates within the hours of 6:00 PM-2:00 AM. Assaults can occur at all times of the day, and evidence of this is the past three assaults that have happened before 2:00 PM on Oakland and Downer Ave. Therefore, if we allocate more funding and accessibility to BOSS during all times of the day, students could be less at risk of being victims of these serious assaults. Some concerns might be that students will have to pay more, however if we readjust where our student segregated fees are going to, no one would have to pay more, BOSS would just get a bigger portion of our already paid student fees.
