UWF Administration to put up signs warning students of endangered gopher tortoises in area
The Issue
The University of West Florida's beautiful campus is considered a wildlife reserve. Many forms of wildlife roam the campus, including squirrels, native turtles, armadillos, etc. Another wild friend that calls our campus its home is the endangered gopher tortoise. There are a few on campus, including one that has a burrow by the Fine and Performing Arts building (82). His habitat is very close to a parking lot that many students drive recklessly through. This petition would be given to the Administration of the university to persuade them to put up signs warning students to drive cautiously, since there is an endangered and precious animal that regularly walks through the parking lot. Many students do not know these tortoises are there, so the signs would be informing them of the illegality of harming, feeding, or even touching them, and warning them to be cautious.
