Petition for a Tuition fee refund equal to the amount of Online Distance learning

The Issue

To whom may concern,

As the COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the world and the UK, it has disrupted the rhythm of life for everyone. The staff at the University of Surrey are working hard to support students to study at home with Online-teaching. On the 24th March, the PM Boris Johnson has announced new measures that people in the UK must stay at home, those who break the rules will be fined by police.

Therefore, the University Library and other facilities will no longer be open or accessible, meaning that students and staff will fully undergo Online-teaching. However, some students have already paid Tuition fees, Accommodation fees and Surrey Sports Park Memberships.

For international students, most of the courses' tuition fee for online distance-learning are half of the original amount (e.g. original fee: £18,000/yr, distance-learning: £9,000/yr)  and some of the staff are no longer required to work on campus, hence their office hours have greatly dropped off.

It is reasonable for tuition fees starting from 23rd March to be reduced to the amount of distance-learning fees.
