Thank you all for your support! Since we have surpassed 300 signatures, I wanted to explain my reasons for starting this petition. I am currently an environmental student studying at USF. Back in March, I decided to hike into nature to remind myself why I’m studying so hard and I picked the USF forest preserve. What I found was a beautiful forest and healthy wetland teaming with life. Less than one month later, I see a news article that USF is looking into developing this property. I grew up watching some of my favorite hiking spots get destroyed to become apartments and strip malls. Now, there is not much nature left in our area. Seeing that USF, which teaches the importance of these types of ecosystems wants to do the same has left me feeling betrayed and saddened. My hope is that with enough support, we can show USF that the community is against this. Let’s continue this momentum!
