I will try and find more information about the policy to share with you all, so that you can make your own informed decision about this.
When I call the SHWC, they are not too friendly about answering questions regarding the policy. They seem offended that I would ask why it is no longer a free resource. I was told "the student services fee you pay only goes toward the maintenance and operation of the SHWC..." so we have to pay for the upkeep of services we cannot access? and, "just like any other doctor's office, you have to pay for the visit." My issue is that this was never the case before. Office visits were always cost-free, and so I asked what had changed. She stated that there was "a new policy that has gone out across campus effective Fall 2019. You should already be aware of it. It is in your patient portal." She shared no other information about the policy when prompted. Therefore, we will research the policy ourselves.
This is what it says when you are given a reminder about an appointment:
"As of August 14, 2019, all office visits will include an office visit charge, to be paid at check-in. The charge will depend on insurance coverage. Additional charges will depend on services received."
