Protect Free Speech: Allow Milo Yiannopoulos to Come to the University of Delaware
The Issue
It was recently decided that Milo Yiannopoulos would speak at the University of Delaware as part of his Dangerous Faggot Tour. However, in the wake of the announcement, a number of resident student organizations within the school have sent an email to University leadership asking them to not allow Milo to go to the campus because, according to the email, he promotes hate speech and not free speech. In addition, someone has started a petition to be sent to the school asking for signatures to prevent Milo from going to the campus.
I am asking people to sign this petition and share it with their friends so we may stand together in solidarity with free speech. Milo does not promote hate speech, but instead says controversial things that some people may not necessarily agree with. This is not hate speech. In any event, it is protected under the first amendment. I believe the University of Delaware College Republicans has the right to bring this speaker on campus in the spirit of promoting discourse and conversation. In conjunction, members of the community should also have the right to hear what Milo has to say and let them form their own conclusions from what he says. Allow Milo and UDCR this chance. Please help us protect free speech.
