Save the UCSC Experiential Leadership Program

Save the UCSC Experiential Leadership Program
The Issue
It has been announced that the OPERS Experiential Program at UCSC is being eliminated at the end of Spring Quarter 2019. We need to keep this program running as it provides not only innovative leadership training, skills, and practice but also connections to others you cannot find in anywhere else at UCSC. Having taken two of the five ELP courses, this program has greatly impacted my life. It has taught me skills I would have never been exposed to otherwise. It has helped me succeed in not only my classes, but also helped me prepare for my career and improved my relationships with my classmates and professors. This program has given me the access and confidence to pursue opportunities I would have never had before. I believe these courses have been just as or even more important to my future as any other class at UCSC. This program has served a diverse group of students and faculty from all majors and colleges over the past ten years. The program is essential to our school as it annually serves over 1,500 students, faculty, and staff. As the ELP instructor Miranda Allen says, "Everyone can be a leader, they just need a place to start. These courses matter."
