UCSB Healthy Hot Bar

UCSB does not offer a variety of healthy and nutritious food options on campus. I drive far outside campus regularly or meal prep for a nutritious meal, and students should not have to go to those lengths in order to find something clean enough to fuel their bodies for academics and other activities, especially when time is a crucial factor.

Yes, UCSB has improved in terms of adding healthier snack options to stores like the Arbor and Summit Café. However, as a top-ranked university, we need a proper arrangement where students can build their own healthy meals, like a build-a-bowl hot bar with options for a clean protein, roasted vegetables, whole grains, & healthy fats. In this way, students will be able to learn how to create a well-balanced, nutritional meal

This hot bar would nourish students and teach them for life how to eat for a strong heart, brain, and bones. It would provide student employment and create a quick and healthy meal as an alternative to oily pizza and chips.

It would also sell only ethically and sustainably produced foods without commonly used additives, preservatives, or flavorings in the food industry, including high fructose corn syrup, canola oil, artificial flavors and colors, and refined sugars.

I am asking for UCSB to provide a physical space sufficient to allow for cooking and storing of ingredients, and to allocate the money to purchase the necessary equipment.
