St. Peter's House Library Opening Hours

The University of Brighton are dramatically decreasing the hours that the St. Peter's House library is open, both on weekends and weekdays. Previously, the building was open from 8:45am-12:00am on weekdays and from 12:00pm-12:00am on Saturdays and Sundays - it has now been reduced to 8:45am-8:00pm and on weekends, from 12:00pm-4:00pm.
The library is a key player in Univeristy studies as it not only provides a huge number of free resources for students, it provides a quiet safe working environment. Not all students have access to a computer, printer, photocopier, and so will be deeply effected by these changes. The St. Peter's House library is already extremely busy particularly during exam periods and these changes will make it even more difficult to find a place to work.
A large number of students have to do part time work along side their studies and so these reduced hours are highly likely to have a negative impact on their grades as access to resources is diminished. These changes also ignore students who may have children or other caring responsiblites who will now have even less time to complete their work.
The St. Peter's House library holds the books and other resources for the Arts and Humanities subjects based at Grand Parade and so these students will be negatively effected the most, on top of already imposed seering cuts on creative subjects from this government. Other libraries such as Aldrich are too far to travel by foot for most students who attend University at the Grand Parade campus, which would effectively mean having to pay to access a library that should already be included in tuition fees.
Please sign if you wish for students at the University of Brighton to continue to have extensive access to the resources at St. Peter's House library and hopefully we can hault these ridiculous changes. Thank you.
