Students should be allowed to drink and eat food in the library!
Students should be allowed to drink and eat food in the library!
The Issue
It is unrealistic to expect students to not consume food or drink in the study space in the library due it wasting a large amount of time from your studies because of the following reasons :
- Queuing in the unnecessarily long queue
- Finding a seat in the small space available to eat
- Cleaning your own table as there is no place for used crockery
- Having to log back onto your computer after it logging out due to a short period of inactivity (which can lose valuable sources, webpages and work)
On the rare occasions where a student has brought food/drink into the library they may feel personally victimised by the frequently rude and unprofessional staff, accosting and evicting them, causing huge disruption to their studies.
During exam season especially, it is highly unlikely that the Library Cafe will be able to cope with the high influx of students, whilst still expecting them to adhere to the rules.
Hopefully if enough people sign this the Guild will consider this a serious enough problem to resolve.
