Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared this petition so far. Your support means everything—not just to me, but to the countless parents and babies whose lives could be saved by early preeclampsia screening.
Since launching this petition, I’ve been reaching out to lawmakers in Arizona and beyond. My goal is simple: make early testing for preeclampsia part of standard prenatal care. Right now, life-saving tools like the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio blood test and uterine artery Doppler screening are not routinely offered in the U.S.—even though they can detect risk long before symptoms appear.
I know firsthand what it’s like to be blindsided. At 32 weeks, I delivered my son prematurely due to severe preeclampsia. I nearly died. No one warned me. No one tested me early. That cannot keep happening.
Here’s what I’m doing next:
- Personally contacting state and federal lawmakers to demand policy reform
- Sharing my birth story with media and maternal health advocates
- Calling on public health agencies to recognize and adopt early screening measures
- Building pressure with every single signature we gather
If you haven’t shared this petition yet—please do. Every name we add shows lawmakers this isn’t just personal, it’s public. We’re tired of hearing “we didn’t catch it in time.”
It’s time to change that.
Let’s demand early screening. Let’s protect pregnant people. Let’s save lives.
With gratitude,
Athena
