The world consumes 400% percent more clothing than 20 years ago.
Cancer, asthma and neurological problems associated with chemicals used in apparel manufacturing are on the rise.
The textile industry is responsible for 20% of the world’s total industrial water pollution and a full 30% of industrial air pollution in China.
Since the supply chain of apparel products has many different touch points and often happens in many different countries, the current mandate from the Federal Trade Commission to label products with “the country of origin” simply will not do.
We believe the US Government must be a leader in setting a new standard in transparency in global garment supply chains.
With a new “Sourced In” tag, consumers will learn about a product’s entire supply chain, including the: farming, washing, dyeing, spinning, weaving, cutting, and sewing. This transparency will provide consumers with an element of trust and confidence that has never been established before.
With this, brands will become responsible for the environmental, ethical, and economic factors for every step of production, from farm to finish factory.
