Babbys birds. There since 2015, claimed to have been donated but who really knows...?
Andre is easily recognizable as the bird who's cage is always open. Everyone else's is shut to the world...
No family bonding. No foraging. No socialization except what seasonal employees and the 5 months of customers can give. No handling. No cuddles. No kisses. No love. Puppy pads and minimal toys, stretches without fruit and vegetables.
The day I was kicked out of the property, I brought a radio for them. Lonely. Bored. Annabelle has the intelligence of a 4 year old human. Azure craves attention and handling that cannot be safely given in that room. Rosie loves everyone because she is desperate for human connection.
And Andre? He does give kisses. Cuddles. I taught him tricks and he became my best friend. He is smart. Loving and affectionate. He deserves to have a life beyond the jungle room. Beyond those cages. They all do.
They might be ok there. Stressed and depressed. Living each day. They'll die there. Alone in a cage in the jungle room. No familial bonds. No real life. There's only 4 birds... is it that big of a deal?
I'd say the tears streaming down my face would be the indicators to me. These are PARROTS dammit. They deserve to have a real chance at life.
Smart and capable of being someone's treasured loved one. Instead of someone's exhibition.
I used to say "You can have happy birds or you can have birds on exhibit. You can't have both. Not like this." Look beyond me and into the cages. Is that a life for them?
No stimulation, the minimum toys that seasonal staff would hang, bring from home or make. Just so they would have something different to look at. Those four walls are their entire existence.
When is enough? When will my friends move everyone to feel the way I do? How many more deaths do we have to add to the ever growing list? I genuinely can't even.
