The Issue

CLFN Cows & Plows: United Not Divided

As a member of Cold Lake First Nation, a descendant of Amable. I hope this petition reaches all of our members, including those living away from our home community, across Canada and abroad, as well as our Chief and Council.

Our voices, questions, ideas, and concerns deserve to be heard and included in decisions that affect our people and future generations, specifically the Agricultural Benefits Settlement Agreement and what comes with it.

We are not asking for money or donations. We are asking for transparency, genuine involvement, and a stronger connection between our leadership and membership.

Members deserve clear and accessible information about the Agricultural Benefits Settlement Agreement, the proposed Trust Agreement, and any future agreements.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but we are aware that roughly 60% of the settlement is proposed to go directly to members, while about 40% is distributed to the trust and related fees. Members should be able to receive direct answers about how these amounts were determined, where the trust funds will go, who will manage them, how decisions will be made, how future developments will be handled, and how members and future generations will benefit.

I believe in full member involvement when a portion of the settlement is being committed to a collective trust instead of being distributed to individual members.

I also firmly believe families should be actively involved when benefits concern deceased members or children. Families deserve to know where a deceased member’s benefits will go, while parents or legal guardians should be trusted and given meaningful involvement in protecting their children’s future benefits.

Our people have skills, knowledge, trades, ideas, experience, resources, and a willingness to help. Imagine the possibilities if we brought those qualities together to build and strengthen our community physically, mentally, and most importantly, spiritually, to bring prosperity to all.

I humbly ask for signatures to help amplify our voices and make sure they are heard. Thank you for taking the time to read. Masi.
