Court case to stop 2022 Ekiti/Osun state elections - Media Townhall meeting with Baasegun 02.03.22

Olusola OniLeicester, United Kingdom

This court case is vitally important because it directly challenges the legitimacy of elections in Nigeria under the 1999 constitution.

A constitution establishes the rules by which a country is run
·      Election is part of those rules
·      No legitimate elections can be held under a fraudulent constitution.
·      It is universally acknowledged that the 1999 constitution is a fraud.
·      No legitimate elections can be held under a fraudulent Nigerian constitution

The 1999 constitution is a fraud (Itanje) for three reasons.
·      One, the 1999 constitution was a military decree by General Abdulsalami.
·      Since Nigeria is no longer under military rule, that military decree is null and void.
·      To be legal and legitimate, the Abdulsalami constitution needed to be ratified by the people. That has not happened.
·      The constitution imposed by the military in May 1999 is therefore null and void.
·      Indeed, the constitution violates the African Charter that Nigeria signed.

Two, the 1999 constitution was the fruit of a criminal enterprise.
·      A military coup is a criminal enterprise. A military coup is a crime against the state.
·      The criminals have not been brought to justice.
·      The criminals have foisted upon us a constitution to enable them escape from justice.

·      Section 6 (6) says: ‘The judicial powers vested in accordance with the foregoing provisions of this section - (d) shall not, as from the date when this section comes into force, extend to any action or proceedings relating to any existing law made on or after 15th January, 1966 for determining any issue or question as to the competence of any authority or person to make any such law.’

·      The criminals silenced the politicians following them by making sure that they too benefited from the proceeds of the crime.

Three, the 1999 constitution is obsolete (Alaiwulo).
·      Nigeria currently does not have a constitution under which you could have a legitimate election.
·      The constitution became obsolete the moment the 12 Arewa States instituted the Sharia criminal law and established the Hisbah police.
·      The people of the Arewa States introduced the Sharia because they wished to be governed separately from the other 24 states of Nigeria.
·      In other words, the Arewa States have seceded from Nigeria.

The Abdulsalami 1999 constitution was all about the status of Nigeria as a state.
·      The Abdulsalami constitution defined Nigeria as a state.

·      Section 1 (2) ‘The Federal Republic of Nigeria shall not be governed, nor shall any persons or group of persons take control of the Government of Nigeria or any part thereof, except in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution.’
·      If the 1999 constitution is a fraud, then Nigeria today has no legitimate government.

·      Section 2 (1) ‘Nigeria is one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign state to be known by the name of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.’
·      If the 1999 constitution is a fraud, then Nigeria as a state is null and void

It is self-evident that Nigeria is in a legal mess. We need the courts to sort things out.

The court case to stop the 2022 elections has been announced to the world.
·      Nigerians at home and abroad know about it.
·      It is something that many Yoruba people have said that they want to do.
·      It has become the flagship project for Yoruba self-determination.
·      Regardless of personal views of the pros and cons, we cannot run away from it. The world is watching. Our enemies are watching.
·      The case must be pursued otherwise we Yoruba will become a laughingstock inside and outside Nigeria.
·      And our fate in Nigeria would be worse

Constitution is ‘Eda ara’ in Yoruba - something that you created for your own self.
·      The Yoruba did not create the 1999 constitution
·      We Yoruba have known how to create a constitution since time immemorial
·      We created the ‘Constitutional Oba’ system of government for ourselves.
·      The ‘Constitutional Oba’ is the 2-arm government of Oba + Council of Oloye
·      In modern times, we created the 1963 constitution for ourselves

The 1999 constitution fraud was committed by northerners to steal land and loot money from Yorubaland and to keep us in slavery.
·      We Yoruba are not slaves. We must reject the 1999 constitution.
·      If we allow elections to take place on Yoruba soil, we are saying that we agree that we are slaves.
·      By going to court, we are telling Nigeria and the whole world that we Yoruba are nobody’s slaves.
·      We must keep our land and our money for ourselves and for our future generations just as our forefathers bequeathed them to us.

It is imperative that other Yoruba organisations provide support for, and line up behind, the Ekiti/Osun voters. Ilana has retained a legal team to pursue the case at the Ado-Ekiti and Osogbo Federal High courts. To this end, Ilana is soliciting support for the Ekiti/Osun voters, from individuals and from organisations, home and abroad. We at Ilana believe that the Ekiti/Osun voters can count on our collective friendship and support. Please make your donations via http://PayPal.me/IlanaUK

There are several million Yoruba people in the Diaspora; upwards of 120,000 of them, for example, live in London. If 20,000 of them donated £5 (US$10) each, that is the job done. There are over 200 Yoruba self-determination organisations. If each donated £500 or more, that is the job done. This way spreads the burden without any one of us being overburdened. As the Yoruba say: many hands put load on head.
