Women's March Global has joined 50 other human rights groups to compose a letter to 30 Ministers of Foreign Affairs of States calling on the UN Member States to adopt a resolution at the 40th session of UN Human Rights Council to explicitly call for the immediate release of Saudi Human Rights Defenders and to establish a monitoring mechanism over the human rights violations in the country.
Recent reports suggest that those detained have not been given access to legal representation and have been subject to numerous forms of torture including electric shocks, sexual threats, sexual harassment, waterboarding, and flogging.
The intent of the letter is to bring awareness to this issue globally. And we hope the release of this letter in time for the 40th session of the Human Rights Council will remind world leaders that the time to act is NOW!
