Eye-witness report regarding the killings of civilians and destruction of properties at Opitawak village, Tembagapura, West Papua by Indonesian military...
Eye-witness ( from villagers from Opitawak village) report regarding the killings of civilians and destruction of properties at Opitawak village, Tembagapura, West Papua by Indonesian military. The eye-witnesses(villagers) that fled their village of Opitawak spoke in their local dialect and had to be translated to Bahasa Indonesia...Here is the eye-witness report as follows;
1. The Indonesian raided the village of Opitawak in the morning of April 4th.
2. When the Indonesian solders raided at the village, the villagers immediately raised five the Indonesian red and white flags and all the villagers gathered together and stood underneath the red and white Indonesian flag as an indication that they are only civilians and not part of the TPNPB.
3.Indonesian military came and shot the village elder (Timotius Omabak) who is a public servant and had been serving the Indonesian state faithfully for the past 10 years .Indonesian military also shot two children (males) who sustained serious wounds on their bodies and have been evacuated to hospital in Tembagapura. Indonesian military started shooting indiscriminately into the crowd as the villagers fled the scene.
4.The rest that were shot at haven't been recovered or the bodies haven't been retrieved because the villagers fled their village and could not account for those who are still missing.
5.The Indonesian military sprayed life ammunition (bullets) indiscriminately into the villagers which is inhumane and should be condemned by International Community because the villagers were innocent shouldn't be treated inhumanely as if they are criminals.
6.This is gross human rights abuse committed by Indonesian military and the only option is for West Papuan people to be free from Indonesian rule..
7. We demand the United Nations to immediately intervene in the current war in West Papua between TNI/POLI (Indonesian military and Police) and TPNPB (The National Liberation Army of West Papua)
