We would like to share with you all a project initiated by Sahiyo and StoryCenter called Voices to End FGM/C project.

Here is one story from the project - ‘A Chorus of Voices’ by Aarefa Johari. Her story shows the need for more support in Asia on the issue of female genital cutting.

The powerlessness of girls to resist tradition is the backdrop of Aarefa’s story, in which she explores her journey from a sense of helplessness to a place of seeing as a young adult that she, too, can speak out against khatna (FGM/C). This recognition led her to challenge the anger and discouragement of relatives, in response to her decision to speak out and to take action with her voice as part of a growing chorus for change.
