"About modern economics - I'm not sure but that a good deal of my own antiquarianism comes from lack of interest in a present world so tangled up in complex and prosy laws of industrial relationship. Certainly, the springs of action in the modern world are wholly intertwined with intricate financial and economic principles, so that the traditional liberal education of former generations gives one a very poor idea of what is really going on. It has come out so strongly since the war that I feel like a veritable illiterate when discussing contemporary politics... The world can't help growing duller as it grows more complex."
H.P. Lovecraft in a letter to Robert E Howard, October 30, 1931
