Greenland (Kalaallit Nunaat) stands at the frontline of climate change and increasing geopolitical pressure in the Arctic. As global powers expand their strategic, economic, and political interests in the region, Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark must NOT be left to face these challenges ALONE.

We, the undersigned, call on the European Union and its Member States to act jointly and visibly in solidarity with Greenland and Denmark by developing a coordinated European approach to Arctic engagement.

Our call is grounded in respect for:

• the right of self-determination of the people of Greenland,
• international law and peaceful cooperation,
• environmental protection and climate responsibility in the Arctic.

Rather than allowing the Arctic to become an arena of great-power competition, Europe should contribute to stability, sustainability, and long-term partnership.

We therefore call on the European Union and its Member States to:

1.    Develop a joint European Arctic strategy in close cooperation with Greenland and Denmark.
2.    Strengthen civilian European presence in Greenland through research, education, infrastructure, and climate adaptation projects.
3.    Support sustainable economic partnerships that benefit local communities and avoid exploitative practices.
4.    Enhance Europe’s role in multilateral Arctic governance, including engagement with the Arctic Council.
5.    Publicly affirm that the FUTURE OF GREENLAND MUST BE DECIDED BY ITS PEOPLE ALONE, FREE FROM EXTERNAL POLITICAL OR ECONOMIC PRESSURE.

A UNITED Europe has both the responsibility and the opportunity to help ensure that the Arctic remains a region of peace, cooperation, and shared responsibility.

DELIVERY OF THIS PETITION

Once a significant number of signatures has been reached, this petition will be formally submitted to:

• the European Parliament
• the European Commission
• the European External Action Service
• the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark

with the request that it be taken into account in current and future European Arctic, climate, and foreign policy initiatives.

Follow-up requests for official responses and dialogue will accompany the formal submission.

Grönland (Kalaallit Nunaat) steht an vorderster Front des Klimawandels und sieht sich zugleich wachsendem geopolitischem Druck in der Arktis ausgesetzt. Während globale Mächte ihre strategischen, wirtschaftlichen und politischen Interessen in der Region ausweiten, dürfen Grönland und das Königreich Dänemark diesen Herausforderungen nicht allein gegenüberstehen.

Wir, die Unterzeichnenden, fordern die Europäische Union und ihre Mitgliedstaaten auf, geschlossen und sichtbar Solidarität mit Grönland und Dänemark zu zeigen und einen koordinierten europäischen Ansatz für das Engagement in der Arktis zu entwickeln.

Unser Anliegen beruht auf dem Respekt vor:

• dem Recht auf Selbstbestimmung des grönländischen Volkes,
• dem Völkerrecht und friedlicher internationaler Zusammenarbeit,
• dem Schutz der Umwelt und der Verantwortung Europas für das Klima in der Arktis.

Anstatt die Arktis zu einem Schauplatz geopolitischer Machtkonkurrenz werden zu lassen, sollte Europa aktiv zu Stabilität, Nachhaltigkeit und langfristiger Partnerschaft beitragen.

Wir fordern die Europäische Union und ihre Mitgliedstaaten daher auf:

1. eine gemeinsame europäische Arktisstrategie in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Grönland und Dänemark zu entwickeln,
2. eine stärkere zivile europäische Präsenz in Grönland durch Forschung, Bildung, Infrastruktur und Maßnahmen zur Klimaanpassung aufzubauen,
3. nachhaltige wirtschaftliche Partnerschaften zu fördern, die lokalen Gemeinschaften zugutekommen und ausbeuterische Praktiken vermeiden,
4. die Rolle Europas in der multilateralen Arktis-Governance, einschließlich des Arktischen Rates, zu stärken,
5. öffentlich zu bekräftigen, dass die Zukunft Grönlands ALLEIN VON SEINER BEVÖLKERUNG bestimmt werden darf – frei von externem politischen oder wirtschaftlichen Druck.

Ein geeintes Europa trägt Verantwortung dafür, dass die Arktis eine Region des Friedens, der Zusammenarbeit und der gemeinsamen Verantwortung bleibt.

Übergabe dieser Petition:

Nach Erreichen einer signifikanten Anzahl von Unterschriften wird diese Petition formell übergeben an:

• das Europäische Parlament
• die Europäische Kommission
• den Europäischen Auswärtigen Dienst
• die Regierung des Königreichs Dänemark

mit der Bitte, sie bei aktuellen und zukünftigen europäischen arktischen, klima- und außenpolitischen Initiativen zu berücksichtigen.

Die Übergabe wird von der Bitte um offizielle Stellungnahmen und Dialog begleitet.

Le Groenland (Kalaallit Nunaat) se trouve en première ligne du changement climatique et fait face à une pression géopolitique croissante dans l’Arctique. Alors que les grandes puissances renforcent leurs intérêts stratégiques, économiques et politiques dans la région, le Groenland et le Royaume du Danemark ne doivent pas être laissés seuls face à ces défis.

Nous, signataires de cette pétition, appelons l’Union européenne et ses États membres à agir de manière unie et visible, en solidarité avec le Groenland et le Danemark, en développant une approche européenne coordonnée de l’engagement dans l’Arctique.

Notre appel repose sur le respect :

• du droit à l’autodétermination du peuple groenlandais,
• du droit international et de la coopération pacifique,
• de la protection de l’environnement et de la responsabilité climatique dans l’Arctique.

Plutôt que de laisser l’Arctique devenir un espace de rivalités entre grandes puissances, l’Europe doit contribuer activement à la stabilité, à la durabilité et à des partenariats à long terme.

Nous appelons donc l’Union européenne et ses États membres à :

1. élaborer une stratégie arctique européenne commune en étroite coopération avec le Groenland et le Danemark,
2. renforcer une présence civile européenne au Groenland par la recherche, l’éducation, les infrastructures et l’adaptation climatique,
3. soutenir des partenariats économiques durables bénéficiant aux communautés locales et évitant toute exploitation,
4. renforcer le rôle de l’Europe dans la gouvernance arctique multilatérale, notamment au sein du Conseil de l’Arctique,
5. affirmer publiquement que l’avenir du Groenland doit être décidé uniquement par son peuple, sans pressions politiques ou économiques extérieures.

Une Europe unie a la responsabilité de veiller à ce que l’Arctique demeure une région de paix, de coopération et de responsabilité partagée.

Transmission de la pétition:

Une fois un nombre significatif de signatures atteint, cette pétition sera officiellement transmise :

• au Parlement européen,
• à la Commission européenne,
• au Service européen pour l’action extérieure,
• au gouvernement du Royaume du Danemark,

avec la demande qu’elle soit prise en compte dans les politiques européennes actuelles et futures concernant l’Arctique, le climat et les affaires étrangères.

Groenlandia (Kalaallit Nunaat) se encuentra en la primera línea del cambio climático y, al mismo tiempo, bajo una creciente presión geopolítica en el Ártico. A medida que las grandes potencias intensifican sus intereses estratégicos, económicos y políticos en la región, Groenlandia y el Reino de Dinamarca no deben afrontar estos desafíos en soledad.

Los abajo firmantes instamos a la Unión Europea y a sus Estados miembros a actuar de forma conjunta y visible, en solidaridad con Groenlandia y Dinamarca, mediante el desarrollo de un enfoque europeo coordinado para la implicación en el Ártico.

Nuestra petición se basa en el respeto a:

• el derecho de autodeterminación del pueblo groenlandés,
• el derecho internacional y la cooperación pacífica,
• la protección del medio ambiente y la responsabilidad climática en el Ártico.

En lugar de permitir que el Ártico se convierta en un escenario de competencia entre grandes potencias, Europa debe contribuir activamente a la estabilidad, la sostenibilidad y las alianzas a largo

3. apoyen alianzas económicas sostenibles que beneficien a las comunidades locales y eviten prácticas extractivas,
4. fortalezcan el papel de Europa en la gobernanza multilateral del Ártico, incluido el Consejo Ártico,
5. afirmen públicamente que el futuro de Groenlandia debe ser decidido exclusivamente por su población, libre de presiones políticas o económicas externas.

Una Europa unida tiene la responsabilidad de garantizar que el Ártico siga siendo una región de paz, cooperación y responsabilidad compartida.

Entrega de la petición:

Una vez alcanzado un número significativo de firmas, esta petición será entregada formalmente a:

• el Parlamento Europeo,
• la Comisión Europea,
• el Servicio Europeo de Acción Exterior,
• el Gobierno del Reino de Dinamarca,

solicitando que sea tenida en cuenta en las actuales y futuras políticas europeas sobre el Ártico, el clima y los asuntos exteriores.
