When we approach decision makers, councillors, policitians etc, about our concern for Westernport, and especially Crib Point, they roll their eyes back, and tell us that it was 'zoned for industrial'. (by Thomas Playford, in 1963).
The world has changed a lot since those days. We desperately need to conserve natural habitat if we want to have a world to live in. (not just for our species!). Any damage to an internationally recognised Ramsar area with UNESCO biosphere designation is not appropriate. The wetlands where transiting marine life come to spawn, the wading birds and unique ecology are not the only loss. Wetlands are renowned as the biggest storers of carbon on earth. Much bigger than forests! If we want to mitigate climate change, we need to draw down the excess carbon to stop the greenhouse effect. The loss of all of this, and that's not all of it, so that AGL can install their floating gas factory, a temporary money-spinner, and not just at the local community's expense either. No Way!!!!
