Taco Bell
17 jun 2015
It’s been seven months since we began the fight for food emoji equality and created the petition to get a taco emoji. During that time, nearly 33,000 of you stood by our side and helped raise awareness of this issue. Well, today we are excited to announce that the Unicode Consortium, the group that oversees the creation of emojis, has approved the taco emoji and released it in their latest Unicode Standard, version 8.0.
What does this all mean? Although the taco emoji has been approved and encoded in the emoji standard documentation, you will not be able to use the emoji on your smartphone until it has been implemented in your mobile operating system. We’re looking at you, Apple and Google.
Regardless, this is a big win for all of us. Thanks to all of you, we are one step closer to emojified tacos. Stay tuned to @TacoBell for the latest developments and to find out when the emoji hits phones. The taco emoji is so close we can almost taste it. Don’t give up.
Love,
Taco Bell
