Elephants populations are being decimated as poachers feed consumer demand for souvenirs, trinkets, jewelry and collectibles made from their tusks. The entire species is at risk.  Urgent action is needed to stop this slaughter.

We commend actions by nations such as the People’s Republic of China and the United States to ban their domestic ivory trade.  But the poaching, trafficking and commerce in animal ivory continues, whether legally or through lax enforcement and huge loopholes in regulation. The slaughter will continue until all nations outlaw the trade in animal ivory and those laws are strictly and fully enforced.

We call upon you and your colleagues to do everything in your power to eradicate the ivory trade, including:

- Enacting national and global bans on all commerce in animal ivory
- Strictly enforcing existing laws and regulations
- Closing loopholes in existing laws and regulations.
