Support the U of M Professors' Strike!
The Issue
With the recent cuts being enacted at the University of Manitoba, students and faculty alike are suffering. Faculty are ready to strike as the administration tries to cut the resources available to staff and students. The administration is also trying to cut the amount of power professors have over their research and teaching. Show administration that we will not tolerate their cuts against our education and academic freedom by signing this petition.
Despite our tuition being as high as ever, fewer courses are offered and we are being left with fewer resources. The administration continues to lead us in this direction, as they try to replace tenure track jobs with precarious sessional work, and overwork all instructors by increasing workloads and class sizes. This diminishes the quality of our education. Now is the time to show our support to the faculty members who dedicate their lives to educating their students. We must help defend both their academic freedom and ours. To get decision making power back into the hands of students and workers, we must support the strike.
While the salaries of U of M faculty members are the lowest found at all comparable universities, President David T. Barnard finds himself with the 3rd HIGHEST. By standing with the faculty, we can show our administration - and others around the world - that students will not accept their education being compromised in the name of administration's priorities.
Our professors have voted overwhelmingly in favour of going on strike if forced to by administration. Sign this petition to show administration that they cannot divide-and-conquer us, as we will be standing up against them, alongside our profs, in the event of a strike.
Let's defend our university!
We the undersigned support UMFA in their strike.
