The Amherst Family Center has been part of the Amherst community for over 30 years. It provides a safe and age appropriate place for young children to play and learn.  Parents and are offered educational workshops on parenting, child development, and early literacy.  In this very diverse and welcoming community, parents who are far from home find a sense of family. 

The Amherst Family Center's Parent Advisory Council has learned that the University of Massachusetts Amherst, (the primary source of funding for the AFC), intends to divest from the AFC at the end of this school year. Without this funding or adequate time to transition back to a parent funded organization, the Amherst Family Center may close. 

Our primary goal is to keep the Amherst Family Center open and intact. If UMass ultimately chooses to end our collaboration we are looking to them to provide sufficient transitional support as we secure funding for the future.
