Group exercise indoors needs to return
The Issue
Group exercise indoors makes up a massive part of heath and wellness. Although it's great that gyms are opening in Tier 1, 2 or 3, many will not go to the gym if classes are not back on the timetable. There has been no data to show that before lockdown 2.0 that the gyms protocols of clean air, social distancing and cleaning routines has been detrimental to Covid cases.
Not allowing group exercise indoors will put many instructors out of a job. This is already a job that is already not paid well. Many instructors are not qualified as personal trainers, therefore this makes it difficult for these people to get fitness jobs elsewhere in the industry.
This new ruling will effect those that cannot be motivated to exercise on their own. Some of these people will not be able to afford Personal Training if it is guidance they need. Many of these classes are also unable to be recreated on their own by a gym participant, eg. exercise to music.
UKactive have made a statement to say they cannot understand why this should be allowed. "However, we are disappointed to note that indoor group exercise is included in tier 3 restrictions and will not be permitted unless in household groups or bubbles, as the sector has proven this activity can be undertaken in a manner that is safe, using a combination of social distancing, sanitisation and increased ventilation. We will make representations to the Government and aim to get this changed" - This statement is from the UKActive Official Website.
