The Hospice which has bases in Telford and Shrewsbury and which has cared for more than 34000 people since it started has received notification from Clinical Commissioners in Telford that their grant will be cut by £250,000 next year, a cut of 30%. This means the charity, which has to raise more than £7m per year through donations and other fundraising activities, will have to cut the number of beds available to care to for patients at the end of their lives. The news comes only two weeks after the Chief Finance Officer of the Telford & Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group claimed that they faced their 'most challenging financial year' after being forced to make £10.6m of savings by Government.
It has also been revealed that the grant made by local Health bosses has not increased for the last 10 years despite costs of providing care having increased significantly.
We call on the Conservative Government to reverse these cuts and properly support this vital hospice care, for the most vulnerable in their time of need.
