IMAN FM has been serving the diverse Muslim and wider community of Sheffield and Rotherham since October 2014 and as Radio Ramadan Sheffield since 2000. The purpose of serving the identified communities is not only to provide quality information that socially interacts the communities but to create community awareness – this is done by detailed researched discussions on the identified topics and this is delivered by the participation from the members of the identified communities. We always have been working for the community towards achieving our organisational mission statement “Equipping the generation towards a cohesive society”.
IMANFM has always aimed to be a completely different radio station that serves the Muslim and wider communities through its quality programming. By highlighting the major issues locally, nationally and internationally we have played a pivotal part to bring unity and cohesion between different communities and people from different backgrounds. Most recent examples are the Manchester Attack at the Manchester Arena, London Bridge Attack and Grenfell Tower fire, we broadcasted special programmes throughout the day when attacks / incidents occurred and then in the drive time show for the entire week. Community leaders, Members from Police, community activists, members from the public have participated in the shows to condemn the attacks and asking communities to come together as one voice to build a safe Britain and be united at these difficult times.
With being an interactive community based radio station IMANFM has worked with local communities with high involvement to ensure that programming is presented in a balanced way in meeting the community needs. This has been achieved by working with existing voluntary and other community organisations.
An important part of the radio, programming has addressed the spiritual needs of Sheffield and Rotherham Muslims and other religion followers. We have shared common religious beliefs and values emanating from the Muslim and non-Muslim backgrounds.
This petition is in support of IMAN Fm being allowed to carry on with its radio broadcasts and for Ofcom not to revoke its license. As listeners we have never had any cause of complain against IMAN fm and the content has always been exemplary. IMAN fm has always promoted community cohesion and has always taken a strong stance against any form of extremism, hatred, racism, sexism, xenophobia and/or any form of discrimination.
