Human Rights Violation in Nicaragua

The people of Nicaragua desperately need your help. They are being denied the right to freedom of speech and peaceful protest. The Nicaraguan government, Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, have implemented unfair reforms to social security and on the 18th April peaceful protests began. In retaliation, the Nicaraguan government sent police and pro-government youth groups to attack its own people. The government has censored independent news channels, tried to control social media and lied to the population about the reality of the situation. Currently the state is not protecting its own people, the police have been ordered to side with the government and thousands of people are being attacked daily. Several people have died in the demonstrations with no sign of a peaceful resolution. The international coverage of these atrocities is weak and we need to stand by the Nicaraguan people for justice. Currently the law is not protecting the safety of its own people or their right to freedom of speech and peaceful protest. We ask the UK parliament to acknowledge the illegality of the Nicaraguan state’s actions and provide support to its people.
