We have a rare, narrow window to change the law—and it may not come again.
Our amendment to close the loophole that allows politicians to lie with impunity is now formally on the table in Westminster. Due to a delay in the Hillsborough Law, we have a brief opportunity to persuade the Government to accept it before the window slams shut.
The Stakes for Our Democracy
Currently, the proposed law holds ministers and public officials accountable for deliberate deception, but backbench MPs and Peers are excluded.
This creates a dangerous gap in our democratic defences. We only need to look across the Atlantic to see the damage "Trumpian" distortions can do when politicians are permitted to mislead the public without consequence. If we allow a system where those who make our laws are held to a lower standard of honesty than those who implement them, we leave our democracy wide open to abuse.
Our Final Push
The Government is persuadable, but we must act while this legislative delay lasts. We are raising £5,000 to fund the intensive work required to get this amendment over the line:
- Briefing MPs & Peers: Ensuring every lawmaker understands why this loophole is a "liar’s charter."
- Media Pressure: Keeping the public spotlight on Westminster so the Government cannot quietly drop the amendment.
- Strategic Advocacy: Supporting our allies inside Parliament to fight back against internal resistance.
Donate here to protect the truth
Your support is the only reason we are this close. If you can donate today—even modestly—you will be providing the fuel for this final, vital stretch of work.
Let’s ensure that in our democracy, the truth is a requirement, not an option.
Thank you,
