Petition updateEnd the liesTrump: We Cannot Let Lies Shape Our Politics

Mar 20, 2025

Once again, we are reminded of just how deeply dishonesty has taken root in politics. Donald Trump has falsely claimed that he has won the presidency three times. This is obviously untrue. He did not win in 2020.

These are the same lies that started the capital riots in Washington.

But the truth no longer seems to be an obstacle for those in power. Instead, lies are repeated so often and so confidently that they begin to shape reality itself.

This is why our fight is urgent. In the US, we see how unchecked dishonesty poisons politics. Lies are repeated so often they become weapons, used to mislead the public and undermine democracy. We cannot let this happen here.

But the warning signs are already in the UK. From broken promises to blatant falsehoods shaping national debates, misinformation is eroding trust in our democracy. When lies go unchallenged, accountability disappears.

At Compassion in Politics, we refuse to let Britain follow this path. We are fighting for a legal ban on lying in politics because truth matters. Honesty matters. Without them, democracy becomes a game for those who care more about power than the people they serve.

You have already taken a stand by signing our petition, and we are so grateful. But we cannot win this fight without you. To push this campaign forward, we need to mobilise supporters, work with legal experts, and keep up the pressure on those in power. That takes resources, and that is why we are asking for your help today.

With hope and determination,

Jennifer, Compassion in Politics
