Capping Dog Breeding for 5 years

Capping Dog Breeding for 5 years
The Issue
The amount of Dogs and Puppies in rescue centres around the UK is overwhelming. The Dogs Trust alone take in approximately 1500 per year, this is not including other major Dog rescues and the small independent ones. Overall, we are looking in the tens of thousands.
A cap on breeding for 5 years will encourage more people to consider adoption rather than lining the pockets of "backyard breeders". These animals are being used for profit and their wellbeing in a lot of cases comes last.
It may discourage unlicensed breeders and puppy farms from using and over breeding animals and may protect the ones they do have from being used as a breeding machine. In many of these cases unhealthy dogs being sold for large amounts of money and end up in rescue as the owner cannot afford their care. This is the sad reality.
The profit from registered and non-registered dog breeders is most cases is not taxed as the majority take cash, this does not benefit the economy and is something that should be enforced at a later date.
Hopefully this cap will lessen the amount of dogs in rescue and healthy dogs being terminated because they have been there too long. It may also aid in the amount of puppies that are dumped and end up dying from neglect.
The system is failing and the laws that are supposedly enforced to protect dogs are not working. Dog are still and will continue to be used and treated badly for profit unless something new is done.
