No doubt some of you have already heard early reports from the Manchester Evening News: that funding for the current support arrangements for rough sleepers around the country has ended. This is highly concerning. However, there have been reversals from the Government on other high profile issues, including the health immigration surcharge for NHS staff and care workers. I take the view that ‘it’s not over until it’s over’. Pressure on the Government to extend support for rough sleepers is acutely needed, and could be particularly effective and timely now.
