That's great news, but we need so many more to be able to make a real impact on the system.
As we've entered a new decade, the legacy of the last decade offers us a chilling insight into what to expect going forwards. The Child Protection System is operating in a 'risk-averse' culture, driven not by the need to protect children from harm, but to ensure no child 'dies or is seriously harmed' on their watch. Then there are targets, departmental KPI's, Governmental Adoption targets, not to mention the profits that can be made from using private fostering and adoption agencies. Agencies often owned by the professionals themselves.
We are seeing a generation of children being emotionally harmed by the system that was devised to protect them from harm. We are a nation of parents grieving for children we love, who have been taken from us unnecessarily and are being raised by strangers. We needed help to look after our children, but any services that once existed to helped families has been shut down, due to decimation of The central Government Budgets that they relied on to exist. So instead of helping us to fix our family issues, allowing us to remain as a family and our children thrive, the State removed our little ones from our care instead!! How? By using one or both of these two ambiguous legal phrases which generally ensures they obtain care orders - the children have suffered 'neglect and emotional abuse' and continue to be a 'risk of significant future harm'.
I started Reform Advocates, a campaign to raise public awareness and to lobby the government for reform of the system. But without the collaboration of like-minded organisation and the participation of many individuals. this goal will remain a pipe dream.
So I ask you kindly......
Please share amongst your family and friends, ask them to share it too! If we continue to build public awareness and the Government receive more petitions on the subject, we are making progress.
Thanks to everyone who has helped by signing and sharing.
Stay Safe, Stay Well and Keep Striving for Reform in Family Law.
