Here is the impact of sewage
The water industry spouts a lot of nonsense, often echoed by our government, about who is to blame for the worsening state of our freshwater ecosystems. The first image is taken below Ambleside wastewater treatment works, which has discharged thousands of hours of untreated sewage into the River Rothay in the last few years. It also has a dry weather flow of 1,843,000 litres A DAY. Our autumnal invertebrate sampling showed a 44% reduction in invertebrates from above to below this wastewater treatment works.
Where was the second image taken? High up on Great Langdale beck, where the main input into the river is land use, with no United Utilities discharges.
