I’ve spent the last year campaigning to try and stop water pollution in the Lake District. More importantly I have spent the last year learning why Windermere lake is on the cusp of ecological collapse.
The two biggest culprits are sewage discharging from waste water treatment works, the other is septic tanks on the catchment. I have spoken with every local authority who’s job it is to protect Windermere and non of them are offering a plan to save the lake. So instead I have created a plan which will stop the situation from worsening and will save Windermere and protect it for our future.
The image above highlights what is happening in Windermere. Climate change is creating enormous algal blooms which is being fed by sewage. The lake is eutrophic, all salmonid species are declining and independent charities are recording phosphorus spikes 1000 times worse then anything that has been recorded previously.
Our environment is dying before our eyes. We must act now before it is too late. I beg you, please sign the NEW petition and share this image with the hashtag #savethemere. If you’re brave enough please repost it onto your timeline to show support for how we can save Windermere. Each post needs engagement.
We are running out of time, we must all stand together to tell the government enough is enough. To read more about what is happening in Windermere, read the description of the petition as you sign.
This is the last opportunity to save Windermere. Over the next coming weeks I will be sharing images and videos that I have taken from the catchment as I record the death of Englands largest lake.
