Let’s make this general election an opportunity to end violence against women! Write to your parliamentary candidates to ask them to commit to action now.
On 12 December, the UK will be voting in a general election. We have an opportunity to make sure elected MPs support all women and girls to live free from violence and the fear of violence. We want this to be a priority for every MP elected.
We are therefore calling on all candidates to help ensure the next Government ratifies the Istanbul Convention as soon as possible – and supports efforts to re-introduce a Domestic Abuse bill.
The Istanbul Convention commits the UK to:
- Prevent violence against women,
- Protect women who are experiencing violence, and
- Prosecute perpetrators of violence.
Please take a moment to help by emailing your constituency candidates asking them to support our campaign.
You can download a template letter to send to your local election candidates here. Find out who your candidates are by using this webpage, or by checking your local authority’s website.
We’ve provided a template letter for you, but we know that candidates respond best to personal stories and opinions of their constituents. If you feel able, and would like to, you could personalise the letter before sending it. Tell your candidates why ratifying the Istanbul Convention – and re-introducing the Domestic Abuse bill – matters to you.
Let us know if your candidate commits to taking action on the Istanbul Convention!
