Hello!
Can you invite your MP to attend our Istanbul Convention Parliamentary lobby on 13 July to help end violence against women? More information on the event and how to contact them can be found here → www.icchange.co.uk/lobby
In the UK, we are facing great uncertainty. In this time, we must ensure that women are part of the conversation and that their rights are protected moving forward.
To do this, we will continue campaigning for the Istanbul Convention. The Parliamentary lobby is a key opportunity to do this and to build support in parliament.
The lobby is a drop in event for MPs and peers to find out more about the Istanbul Convention and have a photo taken of them showing their support.
The event has cross-party support, co-hosted by MPs Gavin Newlands, Maria Miller, Jess Phillips, and Tom Brake. It is organised by the IC Change campaign in partnership with Women’s Aid, Scottish Women’s Aid, the End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAW), Southall Black Sisters, FORWARD, and White Ribbon.
In light of the EU Referendum result many people have asked us about the impact on the campaign. The EU and the Council of Europe are separate and any country in the world can ratify the Istanbul Convention so the campaign continues. The EU prompted Britain to introduce many pieces of legislation championing women’s rights so if we leave the EU then it is all the more important to seek protection from tools like the Istanbul Convention.
To do this, please invite your MP to attend the lobby. Find out more and download the invitation here → www.icchange.co.uk/lobby
Many thanks!
Robyn, Rachel, and Rebecca
