Ban Fracking

The Issue

The latest IPCC report warned we have just 12 years to radically cut our greenhouse gas emissions or face catastrophic climate change.

Yet the UK government is forcing through laws to allow companies to frack across the UK, which will significantly increase our emissions, particularly of methane which is ten times more powerful as a greenhouse gas than CO2.

Fracking has been consistently rejected by local communities and their democratically elected local councillors. So now government is going to force fracking on communities without their consent.

This is unacceptable. We must say no to fracking and initiate a full ban on it immediately. Please support this petition for a complete ban on fracking across the UK.

Fracking has been shown to cause local earthquakes, pollute local water supplies and release dangerous toxins into the atmosphere. It also causes considerable disruption to local communities in the areas it is carried out.

At the same time, we should not be supporting a method of energy generation that will increase the UK's emissions at a time when the cost of renewable energy keeps decreasing and onshore wind is now the cheapest form of generation in this country. It is time the government changed course and started supporting a sensible energy policy.
