UK based company (FDAS Limited) and KRG Representative in UK : to demand to uncover the terms and conditions of the contract
UK based company (FDAS Limited) and KRG Representative in UK : to demand to uncover the terms and conditions of the contract
The Issue
Few months after the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq (KRG) signed a contract with a UK based company (FDAS Limited) to ensure the quality of medicines in Kurdistan region. This company is based in Nottingham in the UK. 10 people in the city of Erbil in Kurdistan region of Iraq lost their sights following an injection with the drug Avastin, 9 of those lost their sights in one eye and the other in both eyes. This medicine was used to help people with issues in their eyes resulting from Diabetes and old age. However, similar to other parts of the work, counterfeit versions of this drug has been used and resulted in the catastrophe for those people in Kurdistan who are part of my community and relatives. We the undersigned, feel that it is important to uncover the terms and conditions under which a contract was signed with FDAS. This is significant because there are concerns about transparency in awarding contracts to companies in Kurdistan. We are also concerned that politicians in the KRG are involved in acts of corruption that led to this disaster. We need the help of the media, politicians, civil society and other stakeholders in the UK to bring justice to those who lost their sights in this catastrophe and ensure that such a disaster never happens again.
