PETITION ENTERS PHASE 1 - CRIMINAL CHARGES - APPEAL TO PETITIONERS TO GET AFFIDAVITS IN 15/11-30/11

samantha bothamargate, South Africa

Nov 17, 2017
The Ugu Mass Lawsuit Petition entered phase 1 of 2 phases, which is to collect affidavits from its petitioners between 15/11 - 30/11 at 30 Locations along the coast line, giving the Petition holder the right to lay Criminal charges against those workers and Union member instigators, who vandalised and keep sabotaging the water pipeline system, charges which the petition holder will lay on their behalf, on 1 December 2017.
September 2017 saw the start all over again, of the sabotage and vandalisation of water pipes, valves and equipment of UGU district Municipality, by criminal elements inside UGU, thereby cutting water supply to thousands of residents on the KZN south coast, cuts these criminals made in the hope of gaining and extorting refunds on policies these UGU workers paid toward from 1997-2016 with Sanlam. Policies that cover life and disability and are not refundable, was cancelled back in December 2016 by UGU and thereafter UGU workers wanted their contributions back from Sanlam, this amounted to over R100 million. This has been an ongoing battle between UGU workers ,UGU management and Sanlam, for the last year, the South Coast residents have been caught in the middle, having their water supply cut for weeks at a time due to these actions. This in direct violation of their human right to water. It has also become known, during the 2017 year, during which period the cut of supply happened a number of times, that this "SABOTAGE OF THE SYSTEM" and "CUTTING OF SUPPLY TO RESIDENTS" can be used as a weapon of intimidation and blackmail against UGU management, when these workers do not get their way... this included disagreements over their overtime pay.
Again the Sanlam issue came up between September 2017 and November 2017 and a previous agreement by UGU to pay back contribution to 2012 not 1997, backfired, workers now demanded refunds further back, again sabotaging the system and seeing south coast residents in some areas without water for a full month. Ugu mass lawsuit petition started its campaign to the radio, the papers and lodged complaints with the Human Rights commission, the Public Protector and the the Consumer Council. The plight of South Coast residents have featured in a few papers and a TV news channel along with a radio interview, the Petition is hard at work getting its plight heard on TV discussion platforms like Carte Blanche, Just factor and a few others. The follow through of its media and rights campaign will continue until it has completed Phase 2 as can be seen below, which is a Civil suit against UGU.
Rumours of possible cuts over the holiday period of December 2017 is sending residents and businesses relying on tourism, into panic. Further rumours that supply would be cut by severe vandalism, if these workers are not paid by UGU and that these repairs would take months to be fixed, which could result in no water supply to South Coast Residents is a real threat to the health and rights of S/Coast Residents.
WE APPEAL TO ALL SOUTH COAST RESIDENTS... JOIN US ON OUR PETITION TO TAKE PART IN CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST UGU EMPLOYEES & SAMWU INSTIGATORS WHICH ACTED CRIMINALLY, ON A MASS SUBMISSION TO THE HIGHEST ORDER OF THE SAPS, WHICH WE WILL MAKE ON BEHALF OF OUR PETITIONERS ON 1/12/17.
