COMPLACENCY - THE KILLER OF JUSTICE The importance of the UGU mass lawsuit..... For a month residents life's were thrown into turmoil when criminal behavior resulted in water supply being sabotaged. History repeated itself for the umpteenth time with UGU's poor service delivery. Some normalcy has returned however the UGU-Mass-Lawsuit is still determined to ensure UGU is held accountable, not only for this disaster but their overall service delivery, management failure in water and sewage supply and control, as well as their poor planning and incompetence. The UGU-Mass-Lawsuit is important not only for this disaster but also to send a clear message to government, that South Africans won't take the poor service, corruption, lack of care and negligence and incompetence any longer. It demonstrates South African citizen's ability to stand up together against government failures. This requires petition involvement like this lawsuit by residents and citizens, and this is where complacency can become a killer of getting such justice. Government gets away with this behaviour because we allow it, we do not stand together to announce in one voice "No More!". Complacency is a natural consequence when situations improve, it's the biggest enemy for obtaining justice as actions that require public involvement get forgotten as people quickly forget what they went through.... until the next disaster.... which we know will happen. In the follow up disaster people then wish to join previous campaigns for justice and this is often to late, as campaigns are abandoned due to public complacency at the time of the campaign. The good news is that the UGU mass lawsuit team expected this and allowed for a period of 6-7 months to collect 6000-7500 petitioners, however should this target not be reached, the suit will be abandoned due to complacency. Currently we are 257 signatories from 1000, to action our criminal charges for personal rights violations for water cuts.
