Opio Christian Daniel started this petition to UGANDAN GOVERNMENT and

Murchison Falls, also known as Kabalega Falls, is a waterfall between Lake Kyoga and Lake Albert on the White Nile River in Uganda. At the top of Murchison Falls, the Nile forces its way through a gap in the rocks, only 7 metres (23 ft) wide, and tumbles 43 metres (141 ft), before flowing westward into Lake Albert. The outlet of Lake Victoria sends around 300 cubic meters per second (11,000 ft³/s) of water over the falls, squeezed into a gorge less than ten metres (30 ft) wide.

Found in Nwoya District(North Western Uganda), and lends it's name to one of Uganda's top tourist attractions, the Murchison Falls National Park with an average rating of 5/5 on leading travel site, TripAdvisor. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g644032-d11256358-Reviews-Murchison_Falls-Murchison_Falls_National_Park_Western_Region.html. Murchison falls is the main attraction in the southern part of Murchison falls national park with activities like Rafting, Boat Ride. Game viewing of Hippos, Crocodiles, etc.

On the 7th of June, a notice was published in The New Vision, a local daily, that a South- African Power Company called Bonang Power and Energy (Pty) Limited "expressed interest" in Constructing a 360MW power station at the magnificent awe-inspiring jaw dropping water-falls.

Constructing a a Hydro Electric Dam at that spot means destroying the Waterfall, disorganizing the intricate balance of life for hundreds of species that it has sustained for ages. Once that balance is messed with, all that depend on that balance will be devastated.

Tourism is without a doubt the leading foreign income earner for Uganda, raking in no less than USD 1,453 million in 2017 https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/1e6d1c_25f604996c33442492f8ec066b21777c.pdf. The continuation of this trend is a testament to the need of peaceful co-existence of man and nature.

No matter the power needs of this country, we ought to look to a different source, not the majestic Murchison Falls. I understand that for country to develop we need power, BUT not at the expense of our Heritage, not at the peril of Murchison Falls.

I implore the responsible parties to rethink the consequences of destroying Murchison Falls abandon this idea. It may look lucrative, but what shall we leave for the future generations?

I plead with all people to help me sign this petition to save the precious Jewel that Murchison Falls is, and leave a legacy that our future generations will look to and be proud of.
