The University of the Arts is a great institution, one that prides itself on bringing in artists of all mediums to give lectures on their work as well as their creative process. This is one of the many things the school offers its students that I believe can really motivate artists and help them learn more about themselves as artists also.
My one problem with this is that I believe that the university does not bring enough artist that can relate to us not just on an artistic level, but someone who is more in touch with the youth overall. I feel as though we get a lot of amazing artists to come in and talk to us, but they aren't understanding us.
That is why I propose that President David Yager, and the rest of the UArts community to come together and bring in well known creator Virgil Abloh. Abloh, a Ghanian-American from Rockford, IL was recently named The head designer of Louis Vuitton Men. Abloh also has his own fashion label "OFF-WHITE", which has made collaborations with with the likes of Nike, IKEA, Levi's, etc. Abloh is an inspiration to millions as he has proved to the world, that you can come from nothing and still make a change. Crossing through different art platforms, Abloh could really connect with the University and it's cross collaboration. He is someone that I believe can light a fire under many artists and get them motivated.
