Urge Congress to Support Bill S.931 - the Artist-Museum Partnership Act (“the Act”)
The Issue
S.931 - Artist-Museum Partnership Act Introduced by Senator Patrick J. Leahy [D-VT] @SenatorLeahy
Vote YES! on S.931
Under current law, artists donating self-created works are only able to deduct the cost of supplies when filing their annual income tax reports. As I'm sure you can agree, the price of canvas, paper, and ink in no way represents the true value of an intellectual property or the time and effort involved in its creation.
S.931 seeks to correct this oversight. If passed, S.931 - also known as The Artist-Museum Partnership Act - would amend the Internal Revenue Code, allowing creators a fair market value tax deduction (determined at the time of donation) of such properties. Provided for your convenience is a Summary of Bill S.931 - penned under the 114th Congress (2015-2016)
The Act has been introduced in the Senate seven times since 2000, most recently on April 14, 2015. Currently, S.931 remains in contention at the Senate Finance Committee, and without your voice, it is likely to end there. To prevent The Artist-Museum Partnership Act from dying on the vine for an eighth time, we must act NOW!
