Petition updateRatify the Equal Rights AmendmentERA Ratification Lawsuit Filed in Massachusetts
The Yellow Roses ERA
Jan 22, 2020

HI and Thank You for signing The Yellow Roses' online ERA YES petition.

On January 7, 2020, three plaintiffs filed a Federal lawsuit in Boston, MA seeking a Federal judge to rule to remove barriers to ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.  Now that Virginia voted this month to ratify the ERA (that makes 38 states), the ERA should now be the 28th Amendment. Attorney Wendy Murphy filed the lawsuit before the Virginia vote as a preemptive action on behalf of lead Plaintiff Equal Means Equal, Secondary Plaintiffs The Yellow Roses (teens and others organized for the ERA) and MA college student Katie  Weitbrecht.

The Yellow Roses are Plaintiffs because these teens: “….have personally experienced an increased fear of violence because they are female and not equally protected under the law.”

Katie Weitbrecht is a Plaintiff because she was strangled by a man who mocked her for being female. Katie’s case could not be charged as a hate crime in Massachusetts because Massachusetts does not protect women as a class from hate crimes. If Katie was attacked because of her race or religion, that would be a hate crime. This denial of equal protection for women will become illegal when the ERA is ratified.

Please feel to share.

One action a person can take is to sign The Yellow Roses’ online ERA YES petition at: http://theyellowrosesera.org/

It’s GO TIME for the ERA.

It’s END GAME for allowing our daughters and granddaughters to continue to be treated as “less than”  under the law.  Please spread the word.

Onward,

R. Adams
