Patriotism Pledge - Call for our elected representatives to donate their salaries
The issue
More than 30 million Americans do not have the ability to earn their livelihoods while we battle COVID-19.
Four weeks ago, I lost my job -- just like so many across the country. At the company my husband works for, all workers have taken a 10%-30% pay cut depending on seniority. Their leadership team had the commendable foresight to reduce executives salaries by 50% in order to avoid layoffs or furloughs for the time being. They are leading by example. We need our politicians to do the same.
We have all been hit hard by this virus. Our hearts go out to everyone who has lost a loved one. We can't thank our frontline workers enough for their courage, strength and fortitude. As a country we need to hold strong and support one another. If we value our communities we must find ways to stand together. It is time for our elected representatives to stand with us.
We are calling on all our Senators and Representatives to donate half of their taxpayer funded salaries this year to show solidarity with those affected by the Coronavirus outbreak. It is important for the government’s most highly paid politicians to show leadership and unity with workers on the frontline and those who do not have the ability to work right now.
We ask you, our elected officials, to stand with those of us who have been hit hard by this pandemic. To use more than patriotic words. To take personal patriotic action.
If there was ever a time to close the gap between groups of people across the United States in different positions, it is now. This is the time for leadership. This is the time for patriotism. Stand in solitary with us. Lead by example.
Donate half of your salary this year back to nonprofits helping to respond to COVID-19. Help a local food bank, a homeless shelter, hospitals, etc. Show us your love for this great country by standing with us in our time of need.
