We have received no updates from my mom since my dad’s last visit. After learning that my mom might be subject to “strict management,” a few of my friends wrote postcards to her, showing care and concern from the outside world. Recently, the Congressional-Executive Commission on China released its 2017 Annual Report. The report states: “The Commission noted reports of continued repression of Falun Gong practitioners, by means including harassment, arbitrary detention, and prosecution. International observers continued to express concern over reports that numerous organ transplants in China have used the organs of detained prisoners, including those of Falun Gong practitioners. ” Immediately prior to October 18, 2017, the opening of 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, more than 40 Falun Gong practitioners in one province of China were arrested and detained. Whenever a major political event is about to transpire in China, the regime wants to project an image of stability and peace. Any possibility of protest or disagreement with the authorities is quashed, often by means of silencing and intimidating dissident groups. However, there are also positive signs that the persecution is abating. Although no official change in policy regarding persecution in China has been made, a growing number of Falun Gong practitioners have been released without charge in 2017, according to the Epoch Times. As a result of the extensive grassroots resistance and advocacy efforts in China and abroad, increasingly more local authorities have been sympathetic to Falun Gong and have chosen to disobey official directives on suppressing Falun Gong practitioners. Change doesn’t happen overnight. It requires persistent work and optimistic minds. I work on the appeal of my mom’s case even though the probability of reversing the judgment is rare based on experience. Since I began working for my mom’s rescue, many people have used that famous metaphor regarding eggs breaking against the wall to persuade me to give up. They said: “You have no hope of winning. It’s a waste of time.” Sometimes even I myself question whether the wall will fall in my lifetime. We seem to be only fragile eggs while the wall we confront is very cold and extremely hard. Nonetheless, the high, solid wall will stand still forever if we stop trying. I must endure. Please help me share this petition. Thank you for your continued support. P.S.
