As we say goodbye to 2022 and hello to 2023, we hope this message finds you safe and well. We are so close to our goal of 10,000 signatures to ensure the Rights of Widows are Advanced in the United States and Worldwide.
Please, continue to share and sign so we reach our goal by the end of 2022. It matters. We have good news on item #9:
9) Recognize International Widows' Day June 23 to coincide with the United Nations https://www.un.org/en/observances/widows-day was sponsored by NJ Senator Gordon Johnson - Bill SJR92/ AJR174 has been introduced to the Senate; specifically Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee and Assembly of Women and Children Committee. We are hopeful in 2023 this will be passed and we can celebrate. https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/bill-search/2022/SJR92
More Good News:
We'd like to congratulate and honor Global Fund for Widows Founder Ms. Heather Ibrahim-Leathers was awarded our Modern Widows Club 2022 Legacy Award in recognition of her service, virtue, nobility, humbleness, inspiration, compassion, fortitude and heroic leadership serving widows worldwide. We'll be presenting her with our crystal globe award in January 2023, you are all welcome to attend virtually as we honor her accomplishments together. Her expertise in created this petition was made possible with her vast knowledge and dedication to advance widows rights while building solutions for economic empowerment to the most financially challenged widows facing the epidemic of widowhood.
Both Modern Widows Club and Global Fund for Widows have seen alarming increases in widows needs globally post-pandemic losses, the invasion in Ukraine and other conflicts globally. Widows suffer when the world is not at peace. Continuing to delay mainstreaming in the Women, Peace and Security Agenda only prevents us, as a global community, from achieving timely, lasting peace and needed support for widows. The widow crisis is larger now than before this petition started a year ago.
